Undara MF
Full Papered Third Premium Mare
Erik 351 x Hearke
Registration # 200605484

Undara is our third foal from Ourenske H (aka Wren), and finally, we have a filly! Born around 11 pm on May 4th, it was an amazingly quick and easy delivery. She has very long legs, a short back, and very upright neck. If Undara is anything at all like her older siblings, she will be a force to reckon with! She will be staying at Mythic Friesians as part of our broodmare band.

Wren's first foal with us, in 2004, was Othello MF, who was awarded a second premium at his foal keuring. Her second foal was another one that we are keeping for ourselves, Random MF - the last foal by the late and great Frans 289. Wren is a proven producer of top foals - one of her older sons, Paulus fan 'e Achterwei, is consistently winning at IFSHA shows and won two Championships at the 2004 IFSHA Grand Nationals. Undara's sire is Iron Spring Farm's stallion Erik 351. We chose him as the sire because we believe his conformation is a perfect match for Wren's. His shorter back, handsome face and a bit more height will produce a slightly more versatile horse than Wren's baroque frame alone tends to do. The fact that Erik descends primarily from the Ritske and Age stallion lines was an added bonus. For more information on Erik 351, visit his website at Iron Spring Farm.

As a two year old, Undara had matured faster and better then we ever imagined! And as a three year old, she is only getting better and better. She is very tall (well over 16 hands) and her conformation is exactly what we wanted. While her bones are very thick, she has long legs that are well proportioned to her heavyset body. Her hind end is round and powerful, and she has incredible impulsion at all 3 gaits. Her neck is also well suited to her body, though it could be a touch longer. She has a noble head much like her dam's, and a soft, gentle eye. She also has an abundance of hair - wherever she hasn't rubbed it off while stretching for that last blade of grass!

In 2009, we decided not to keur Undara. While she has progressed wonderfully in her training, she is not quite ready to be presented to the judges yet. Her neck is filling out, but it's not quite done yet, and her muscle tone was not yet what we wanted it to be.

In 2010, we presented Undara MF to the judges at the Olds, Alberta keuring, in the 4+ Mare for Studbook/Star category. She did not have as much training as we wanted due to our inclimate summer, but we felt she was ready enough to go. Undara was placed first in her very large class of 7 mares. She was awarded a third premium, and the judges commented on her strong walk and good overall conformation. They even commented that her neck was long enough, which made us very happy! They suggested that she be brought back after more training and presented again. We will bring her back in a year or two, once we get her driving and going under saddle.
